There are many significant events in U.S. History that have shaped the U.S. to what it is today. Without these events, the country that we all know today wouldn't be existent. Without History, you can't really understand the past because it is gone forever as soon as it occurs and is over with. Whether that history is oral, written, or archeaological, it is our only window into another time period. Then again, history isn't the past. History is how individual people understand the past. So, one truly has to use judgement when using it, though one cannot chose NOT to use it. The present can only be explained through history. Because everything happening right at this moment is a result of something that happened in the past, only by studying the past can we learn why the present is happening as it is. One cannot live in the present without regard to the past. History is cyclical, so studying can give us some idea of what will happen in the future. The world has changed, but the human heart has not, and our world has the same problems the world a thousand years ago had, in essence. No one can predict the future, but the past can give us HINTS of what may be to come. And without further or due, here is my "Top 8 Most Significant Events in U.S. History" presentation.
